Remember

January 23, 2008

1. Sometimes emotions go crazy a few days before, during, and a few days after the full moon. The full moon was last night.

2. Don’t be afraid of death. Be afraid of not living life to it’s fullest.

3. We have no guarantee that we will live past the next 5 minutes. Use each moment wisely and full of love.

4. TELL SOMEONE YOU LOVE THEM TODAY!

Be kind to your animals - they are gifts!

Yes, I do spoil mine! Buck has been a friend, a protector, and lots of fun to hike with for 10+ years now. He has
his own couch, and the blanket is also a jacket for when it’s very cold. It’s unbelievable to me, but he also senses when I am sad (comes over and puts his head on my knee); when I’m mad (he comes up and looks at me and calms me down), and he has a vocabulary too. Lastly, he doesn’t care if I am a disaster to see-he loves me anyway!

All pets should be treated with kindness and appreciation. They offer unconditional love - and that’s something we humans should learn to practice more often.

The beginning of fall and the continuing trashing of the forest! Shame on us!

Thoughts, rantings and positive awareness

October 25, 2007

My prayers and thoughts go to all who have lost their homes in Southern California.
Those fires are terrible and scary! I used to live in Big Bear Lake, so Arrowhead
was my neighboring town. So many folks hurt, so many animals killed and so many trees that absorb carbon dioxide (to help us breathe) - are gone.

The source of the beginnings - arson for three fires for sure. My husband thinks fire is the perfect terrorist devastation. I only know it is devastating for over half million people!

On the opposite end of my thought process, I find so many things in this country despicable that we can do little about these days. No wonder so many people hate
America (though I wish they could keep in mind, the majority of Americans are as unhappy about things as everyone else) and there is truly VERY little we can do about it! Even voting because of the way candidates are selected and the electoral college is outrageous and unfair.

Money talks in this world and for those of us who don’t have it - we are pretty much screwed and are only able to keep “Our personal worlds” running effectively and in a positive manner - hopefully!

You know rebuilding the multimillion dollar homes in Malibu will have a domino effect.
Insurance companies will have to put out at least a billion dollars, their profit will be much less, therein insurance rates will go up for everyone!

Off the subject. Do you know why the most insidious drug available (cigarettes) is still on the market? MONEY, of course. The US government collects $100 billion dollars a year in cigarette tax! Don’t know the stats on alcohol, but I am sure that’s pretty high too.

FYI : Did you know as an additive to that fine cigarette the manufacturers sweep up old tobacco from the floors to mix with tobacco that didn’t qualify as “good”? They also put in LOTS of chemicals (chocolate, butter, fat, glycerol - to mask the true taste), and call it “nicotine manipulation”.

The papers are a mix of things also, including ground stems and ammonia…they call these
techniques of using all the junk, the “reclaiming process”. Oh also, sugars are added to enhance the absorption of the nicotine in the body.

YES - cigarettes are addicting because they activate areas in the brain that sense pleasure.
However, my husband used to smoke a pack a day for many, many years. He decided to quit and did it cold turkey. It’s been 4 years now and he is so much healthier and happier-he also smells better and is saving a ton of money.

Think about it.

This rambling is about to end abruptly with one last thought. HAPPINESS IS A SKILL!
It takes practice to be happy regardless of stumbling blocks placed before all of us.
We each have our own things to challenge us. Please practice thinking before responding to a circumstance, and choosing happiness over anger and despair. It is a choice.

I want the best for you my human family!

Covet? Me? YEP!

September 17, 2007

Time to write a post as my family has made a stop to visit aunts and cousins “on the way.” They will arrive tomorrow. My sister called last night and said my hubby and I should drive to Utah and join the group. She was just trying to be loving and was excited.

I got jealous. I can’t believe I did, but I did. The family was supposed to be here with me today. My darling husband works and can’t just pick up and leave (though he deserves a wonderful trip).

My niece and nephews live in a beautiful mountain community, and they have motorcycles and horses, and were having a BBQ…..I resented the fact that they were together and we were excluded. I resented the fact that I don’t have acreage and all the fun stuff to offer the family.

I was totally bummed as I figured the things I have for the children to do would now seem trite and not so much fun at all. I had dinner all planned and high expectations for today.

ME, ME, ME. Yes, it was all about me!

In reality, the more people who love my children and grandchildren, the better for them and their lives.. The more fun and exciting things they get to do - all the better! Meeting their “extended” family is wonderful for them. My son was having a blast with his cousins and everyone was very happy. What in the world was I thinking! I want them all to be happy and enjoying each other and loving life!

IF I LOVE THEM, I WANT THE BEST FOR THEM!

So now, with a new mind set, I will “endeavor” to keep those things in mind and be generous with my thoughts. After all, what I really want for my family (close and extended) is for them to be loving, happy and healthy! There you go. I fess up and make amends for my momentary negativity. I am going to take a breath and let that nasty stuff fly out my fingertips!

I feel like I’m cheating….

September 15, 2007

…..on line, that is! I haven’t posted for a while. It’s not because I don’t “think” about doing it every day.
I’m hooked. I just have been preparing for family coming from the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

My son recently gained custody of his three children, 6, 8, and 10 (He practically raised them from birth). They arrive on Monday and so we are busily preparing for (we hope) an extended stay.

So this brief post is simply to say - I’m gone, but not dead! The PRIORITY, above all this wonderful writing and sharing with new friends, must take a back seat to REAL LIFE. As much as I love to sit here and share thoughts - read and gain insights and new friends - I still prefer LIFE and ACTION.

So until a few weeks from now (probably), I will be riding bikes, playing games, hiking, swimming, finding interesting sights to see, and LOVING the heck out of my family! Hugs, kisses, hand holding, and good times together.

Time is FLEETING - I suggest YOU SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME WITH THOSE YOU LOVE! FAMILY, FRIENDS, ACQUAINTANCES…..JUST TAKE SOME TIME TO TALK FACE TO FACE WITH SOMEONE AND DON’T ISOLATE YOURSELF 24/7.

IT’S NOT GOOD FOR YOUR BODY, and certainly not ENTIRELY good for your mind….God Bless!

A WEEKEND TALE FOR YOUR PLEASURE “2″

August 18, 2007

We laughed and jumped in the VW van to begin the trek cross country. My husband, two small children, and a pile of stuff to pack. It wasn’t totally pleasure that inspired us. My husband was a musician. He was booked to play some clubs cross country. With high anticipation I pledged to “make it work” - and make it work I did! Along with working to make it!

When we reached Ogallala, Nebraska we had a bit of time between gigs. The kids were happy to have a bit of time to quit driving and actually get out and play. My husband, brilliant, but not having an ounce of common sense, decided to drive out on the beach at Lake Ogallala.

I winced at where he parked the van and said, “Don’t you think this is a bit too close to the water?”

“Nay,” he said sharply. “I know how and where to park.” Ok. I wasn’t liberated then, so I
just shut up and started fixing lunch.

The children were laughing and running on the beach so I decided to turn to a radio station with
music. While fixing the tuna sandwiches I heard an interruption of regular programming.

“A storm is approaching and winds will be 70-85 miles per hour. This is unexpected, so prepare.”
(Or close to that!). I gulped and noticed dark clouds approaching from the southwest, and fast!

“John”, I yelled, “There is a severe storm approaching and the winds are going to be, etc…….”

He yelled back, “Oh, you must have heard wrong. They probably said 7-8 miles an hour.”

Again, I was still in chains, so I just put lunch on the table and called everyone in to eat.

Out of nowhere wind began beating the VW. The waves whipped up and the children screamed.
“Stay put”, John said. “We are safer in here than outside.”

I wasn’t sure, but found myself just holding the children and saying prayers.

When it was over, we were surrounded by water. Thank God the tires had sunk sufficiently so as not to turn us over….or take us out to the middle of the lake!

I thanked God for saving us. John paid someone for towing us out, and of course, we never spoke of it again! Oh my gosh, had it not been for my beautiful children…..those were NOT the DAYS to recall!

Okay - I may be addicted to your love!

A photo for your pleasure!beach-and-gull.jpgCreate a beautiful day NO MATTER WHAT!
It’s still a choice.

Urgent for all parents!

August 15, 2007

I didn’t think I would post for a couple of days, but in case you haven’t heard - Mattel is recalling millions of toys made in China with lead paint and/or magnets. The toys could be deadly.

Check on the web or get the information to protect your babies and little ones! Here is just one site to check: www.ToyRecall.biz - there are plenty of sites to check.

God bless and protect the children!

Swim emergency information

August 14, 2007

I know summer is almost over, but here is some information that could save lives if stranded in the water….

If you are far from help and need to sustain yourself DON’T try to swim to shore. Swimming accelerates heat loss….which can cause hypothermia (dangerously low body temperature). Try to
stay still, with legs together, and arms as close to your sides as possible.

Hopefully if you find yourself in this position you will have a life jacket on! This is a great time to have extra body weight as larger people cool down slower, which could help save your life.

Learn to float on your back. Learn to swim and dog paddle. Learn to keep that life jacket on!
Be SAFE and at least keep your children with life saving gear on at all times if you are boating.

I won’t be posting again until Friday or Saturday as I am a bit buried with paperwork that needs to be done one day, and my “kayak urge” which needs to be filled the other:). In the meantime, take a breath, enjoy the moments of your life. They pass quickly. Hug someone!
